Her military training is put to good use, however, during the crises she faces, first as a ship captain in dangerous situations, and later as the representative of a family under attack. She had sought a life outside the family business by enrolling in the Slotter Key Spaceforce Academy, but she is forced to resign in her final year and assigned to captain an old trading ship for the corporation. ![]() The books follow the adventures of Kylara Vatta, a young member of the Vatta family, which runs the interstellar shipping corporation Vatta Enterprises. ![]() The first eleven years as a parish pastor produced an incredible output of writing, which included what is most certainly his most famous work, the Hammer of God, a novel written in 1941. His first few years in the ministry (1934-1938) appear to have been spent as an assistant to the bishop with special responsibilities for work with the youth. His active career can be divided into two parts: his time as a parish pastor in Torpa, Sweden (1938-1949), and his time as a bishop in the Church of Sweden in Gothenburg (1949-1970). ![]() ![]() Basically, Giertz was a man of the church. A nice biographical sketch can be found at the Lutheran Student Fellowship of Pittsburgh, among other places. Many have provided more than adequate summaries of this great man's life, a feat I will not attempt to reproduce here. Yet, as happens so often, he is the subject of dissertations himself and remains an inspiration for generations of theologians and pastors. ![]() As far as I can determine, this great theologian of Sweden who became a very prolific and popular writer while also attaining great respect as a scholar, never earned an actual doctoral degree. In my unintended series on significant theologians of the 20th century without earned doctorates, yet another name must be added: Bo Giertz. ![]() ![]() ![]() These include but are not limited to alliteration, enjambment, and allusion. The first of these, alliteration, occurs when words are used in succession, or at least appear close together, and begin with the same sound. These quatrains do not follow a specific rhyme scheme or metrical pattern, meaning that they are written in free verse. ‘Rosa’ by Rita Dove is a four stanza poem that is divided into sets of three lines, known as tercets. She “stood up” against segregation, oppression, and racism by sitting down and doing “nothing”. Dove refers to the act that Rosa Parks is best known for, sitting at the front of a bus in the “white” section. The poem speaks about Parks without mentioning her by name (except for in the title). ‘ Rosa’ by Rita Dove is a short and powerful poem that relays the story of Rosa Parks in simple and memorable terms. ![]() ![]() ![]() As the girls explore their new home, a neighbor lets them in on a secret: There are ghosts in Bahía de la Luna. Sometimes I balk at the price of graphic novels, I think this one was £16.99 from Waterstones, but when the artwork is this beautiful it’s hard to argue with – look at that cover! I own used copies of the first 8 books, that’s all my teenage budget could afford at the time! This time around, I listened to the audiobooks. There is so much going on in this world that it can’t be told from just 2 characters. It almost makes the series even more amazing because every book is not just the main female/male perspectives you have multiple character perspectives throughout each book. I did start the series from book 1, which you have to for this one. ![]() I honestly can’t remember how this was first recommended to me which is kinda sad. I love everything about this awesome lady and I am so grateful for this series and how entertaining it has been over the years. ![]() She likes to say she’s just telling the story to us, that she hasn’t ‘created’ any of this, she’s just relaying the images and information that’s given to her. Ward and let me tell you, she is full of passion still for this world that has been created. The series started with this book back in 2005 and is still going strong with its biggest following ever. Even if you aren’t into paranormal vampires, at some point you will stumble upon them or be recommended this series.
